Obituary

Al Dunnam, 99 of Vernon, Texas passed away on Thursday, January 30, 2025, in Altus, Oklahoma.

Funeral services will be held Monday, February 3, 2025, at 2:00 pm at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Toby Castleberry and Mr. Mike Klappenbach officiating. Burial will follow at Wilbarger Memorial Park under the direction of Sullivan Funeral Home.

Charles Alfon Dunnam was born Friday, August 7, 1925, in Whitesboro, Texas. He was the son of the late Charlie Allen Dunnam and the late Fay Tiny Johnson Dunnam. He married Darlene Earp on April 8, 1951, in Weinert, Texas. He was a member of the U.S. Army where he was a Rifleman during World War II. He served in Luzon, in the Southern Philippines, and he was awarded a Purple Heart, two Bronze Stars, and numerous other honors. Al worked as a farmer and roughneck and then worked for the Texas Employment Commission. Upon retirement Al and Darlene moved to Nocona Hills where they could enjoy playing golf. He also loved to play softball and watch baseball. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church where he served as a greeter. He loved greeting everyone as they arrived at church on Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings.

Al is survived by one son, David Dunnam of Austin, Texas; one daughter, Sue Robinson of Vernon, Texas; four grandchildren, Dustin Dunnam, Mendy Lingle, Amber Stuffings, and Whitney Beam and ten great grandchildren. Al also leaves behind one brother, Raymond Dunnam of Houston, Texas, and one sister, Wanda Ham of Haskell, Texas.

Al is preceded in death by his wife, Darlene Dunnam on July 3, 2013.

Visitation will be Sunday, February 2, 2025, from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm at Sullivan Funeral Home.

Memorials may be given to a favorite charity.
