Aneita Faye
Riggins
Dec 2, 1924 — Jan 21, 2024
Mrs. J.C. (Jake) Riggins, formally Aneita Faye Webb, 99 of the White City community, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 21, 2024, in Vernon, Texas.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 25, 2024, at 2:00 pm at Wilbarger Street Church of Christ with Mr. Joe Dale Wilson and Mr. Don Webb officiating. Interment will be at Wilbarger Memorial Park under the direction of Sullivan Funeral Home.
Aneita was born Tuesday, December 2, 1924, in Vernon, Texas. She was the daughter of the late Fred Webb and the late Pearl Eugenia Terhune Webb. She married the love of her life, J. C. (Jake) Riggins on October 7, 1951. He preceded her in death on January 23, 2011.
Aneita assisted her husband with farming, ranching and bookkeeping They were actively engaged in farming in the Odell, White City, Fargo, and Doan's communities. In later years, their focus was cattle.
Aneita was the Valedictorian of her high school class and after high school she worked as a secretary at the Herring National Bank for twelve years. She played the piano beautifully and was a member of the Mozart Club. She also enjoyed keeping a lovely yard and was proud of her garden. Over the years she was a member of the Fargo Extension Education Association, Santa Rosa Cattle Women's Association, PTA and Booster Club at Northside ISD, and she volunteered at the Tipton Children's Home in the sewing room. Aneita was also a member of Fargo Church of Christ. After many years of dedication to her community, she was named the Doan's Picnic Woman of the year in 2007. Even when she was busy with all of those groups, she found time to edit all of her grandchildren's English papers, worked with them on sewing projects and was never to busy to help with a 4-H project or practice with them for a piano recital.
While she had many talents, being a homemaker was undoubtedly one of her biggest achievements, because it always felt like home when that back, screen door squeaked opened!
Jake and Aneita loved having their family close to them. They were often the hosts for big Riggins family gatherings and everyone always hoped to get a piece of Aneita's famous Strawberry or Dr. Pepper cakes. Christmas was also a favorite time as the whole family gathered for a special Christmas Eve dinner and then again the next morning for presents. Aneita always made everyone's favorite Christmas candies – fudge, peanut brittle and divinity – and everyone snuck candy all day long! Birthdays were another family favorite and every single grandchild has a fond memory of sitting at the bar, surrounded by cousins, excited for birthday cake.
