Barbara Lynn
Thacker
Jan 1, 1959 — Jun 29, 2026
Barbara Lynn Thacker: beloved wife, mother, nana, and friend.
Barbara was born on January 1, 1959, in Quanah, Texas and on June 29, 2026, our lives changed forever when she was taken from us way too soon. While our hearts are broken and our worlds are shattered, we are incredibly thankful for all the years we were blessed to spend with her and know her love which was unmatched.
There are some people whose love is so big that it shapes an entire family. Barbara was one of those people.
She was welcomed into Heaven by her mom, Charles Etta; her dad, Johnny; and her mother-in-law, Elizabeth.
She leaves behind the love of her life, James (Jim), who loved her faithfully through every season of life. Their love story began in the small town of Chillicothe, Texas where they raised all 6 of their children. He loved her so much he left his life and everything knew in England to be with her in the states. Their 39 year marriage was one built on laughter, devotion, and countless memories.
She also leaves behind her brothers, Jeff and Chuck; her sister, Candy; her children, Dustin and wife Rachel, Ryan, Kory and wife Laura, Cameron and wife Emily, Haley, and Deena; countless cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews, and the twelve people who made her smile brighter than anyone else ever could, her grandchildren: Emmett, Logan, Conor, Aiden, Harrison, Madeline, Vivienne, Caine, Charlotte, Wesley, Hadlee, and Lizzie.
To them, she wasn’t Barbara, she was Nana.
Being Nana wasn’t just a title, it was who she was. She loved every one of her grandchildren with her whole heart. She celebrated every milestone, every birthday, every laugh, every hug, and every ball game. She never missed any of it. If one of her kids or grandkids was playing, you could count on seeing her in the stands, cheering louder than anyone else. She never wanted to miss a moment because she wanted every one of us to know we were loved.
Barbara had a way of making everyone feel like family. She truly never met a stranger. Whether you’d known her for twenty years or twenty minutes, she’d make you feel welcome, cared for, and important. She had the biggest heart of anyone we’ve ever known and she poured it out each and every day. She loved her daughters-in-law as if they were her own blood, sometimes more than she loved her own sons. She loved so hard and so loud and she proved it day in and day out.
She spent many years loving children outside of her own family too. As a cheer sponsor and a paraprofessional, she treated every student as if they were one of her own. She celebrated them, encouraged them, and loved them in a way they’ll never forget.
Mom found happiness in the simple things. She loved fishing, camping, hanging out, going to church and singing her heart out worshiping Jesus, and just being anywhere surrounded by her family. Although not so simple and sometimes stressful she never missed cheering on the Dallas Cowboys or the Texas Longhorns. You could always tell how the teams were doing based off her Facebook posts (although some of them may have been late because she was unknowingly watching a rerun…) She loved spending time with family, sharing meals, laughing, and making memories that we’ll treasure forever.
If you knew Barbara, you knew joy.
You knew kindness.
You knew unconditional love.
She was the first person to celebrate your victories, the first to offer encouragement when life got hard, and the first to remind you that family always comes first. She truly was your biggest fan, not just on the field but off as well.
There will never be another Barbara Thacker.
We will miss her voice. We will miss her laugh. We’ll miss her cheering from the sidelines, her hugs, her phone calls, and the way she somehow made everything feel like it was going to be okay just by being there.
The hole she leaves in our hearts can never be filled but the love she poured out will live on in each of us, in her grandchildren, in every child she ever encouraged, and in every life she touched.
Barbara, thank you for showing us what unconditional love looks like. Thank you for always putting your family first. Thank you for every sacrifice, every prayer, every hug, every game you attended(which was all of them), and every memory you gave us.
We love you more than words could ever say.
Until we see you again, we’ll keep looking for you in every sunset, every worship song, every football game, every fishing trip, and every moment spent together as a family.
You will always be our mom.
You will always be our Nana.
You will always be our biggest fan.
And you will always be the heartbeat of our family.
