Baxter Wayne Gentry, 94 of Vernon, Texas passed away on Sunday, February 2, 2025, in Vernon, Texas.

Funeral services will be held Monday, February 10, 2025, at 10:00 am at Central Christian Church with Rev. Jim Antwine officiating. Burial will follow at Wilbarger Memorial Park under the direction of Sullivan Funeral Home.

Baxter was born Wednesday, September 17, 1930, in Crowell, Texas. He was the son of the late Stantney Gentry and the late Margaret "Maggie" Elizabeth Russell Gentry. He married Gwen Cooper on January 27, 1955, in Roaring Springs, Texas. Gwen passed away in 1981. He then married Berta Ford on August 21, 1982, in Amarillo, Texas. He was a member of the U.S. Air Force as an Airman First Class serving during the Korean Conflict. He lived in Crowell, Texas most of his life, but he moved to Vernon, Texas in 1982. Baxter and his father owned and operated a harvesting company until 1984. He then worked at Sullivan Funeral Home for many years until he received his Real Estate license and worked for the Davis Vernon Agency. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #840 in Crowell, the Eastern Star #424 in Vernon, Quanah Chapter #450, Fort Worth Scottish Rite, and the Maskat Shrine Temple. He was also a member of Central Christian Church.

Baxter is survived by his wife, Berta Gentry of the home and two sons, Stantney Robert Gentry of Lake Livingston, Texas and Kenneth Wayne Gentry of Iowa Park, Texas. Baxter also leaves behind two grandchildren, Destiny Blackstar and Lauren Kirksey, three great grandchildren, Gauge Carew, Enli Blackstar, and Lily Kirksey.

Baxter is preceded in death by his sister, Joann Sandlin.

Visitation will be Sunday, February 9, 2025, from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm at Sullivan Funeral Home.

Memorials can be given to Faith Mission, Rathgeber Hospitality House, or Vernon USSV.
