Obituary

Bobby Joe Harvey, 87, a life long resident of Vernon, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, in his home surrounded by his loving family.

Funeral services will be held Friday, July 5, 2024, at 10:00 am at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Toby Castleberry officiating. Burial will follow at Wilbarger Memorial Park under the direction of Sullivan Funeral Home.

Bobby was born in Vernon, Texas on March 16, 1937 to the late Mr. & Mrs. D. E. Harvey. He married the love of his life Barbara "Beebe" Harvey sixty-six years ago on June 6, 1958 in Vernon, Texas. They had two children, Tracee and Barry. He graduated from Vernon High School in 1955. He was very close to all of his schoolmates and very fond of many of his teachers at VHS.

Bobby started working at the age of fifteen with his father on the weekends doing plumbing and electrical work as this still gave him time for all the school sports he loved to play. He learned his electrical trade from his father and became a well-known electrician and a wonderful provider for his family. He worked with Harvey Electric until starting his own business H&h Electric with his late son, Barry Harvey. In 2023 Bobby retired and closed H&h Electric.

Bobby was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and a long-standing member of the Lions Club. He was named Lion of the Year in 2002-2003. He was very passionate about coaching his kids and grandkids sports with Boys & Girls Club.

Papa Joe is how many people knew him. He became Papa Joe in 1982 at the birth of his first grandchild.

Bobby is survived by his wife, Barbara Harvey of the home; daughter, Tracee Downes of Vernon, Texas, grandchildren, Hilaree Kapchinski & husband Derrick (Rhialee, Brooke, & Lilly) of Overton, Texas, Morgan Hinojosa & husband Stephen (Ashton & Addison) of Altus, Oklahoma, and Nathan Downes of Vernon, Texas; daughter-in-law, Paula Harvey, grandchildren, Sydney Harvey (Beckett), and Jake Harvey of Bartonville, Texas; one sister, Helen Crawford of Fort Worth, Texas; special son, Larry Perzinski of Altus, Oklahoma; special friend, Art Jones of Fort Worth, Texas, and many special nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Bobby is preceded in death by his mother & father, Mr. & Mrs. D. E. Harvey; son, Barry Harvey; brothers, William Harvey, DeWayne Harvey, Gordon Harvey, Jerry Harvey, and Ronnie Harvey, and son-in-law, Paul Downes.

We truly appreciate all the doctors, nurses, home health, hospice, friends, family, church members, neighbors, and everyone that has been of great support during this time of his passing.

Memorials can be made to Calvary Baptist Church, Hospice of Wichita Falls, or USSV of Vernon.
