B.W. Strayhorn, 87 of Wichita Falls, Texas passed away surrounded by family on Friday, November 29, 2024, in Wichita Falls, Texas.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at 2:00 pm at Sullivan Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tim Ferris officiating. Burial will follow at Wilbarger Memorial Park under the direction of Sullivan Funeral Home.
Wayne was born Wednesday, April 14, 1937, in Searcy, Arkansas. He was the son of the late R.F. Strayhorn and the late Beaulah Strayhorn. He married Betty Manar on June 22, 1962, in Vernon, Texas. Wayne began operating heavy equipment as a teenager, and then in 1975 he became the owner and operator of B.W. Strayhorn Company, Inc. working in excavation, materials, and demolition. His wife, Betty, was always by his side helping with the books and raising their family. His two sons, David and Greg, grew up working and learning from him, and in 1991 it became a family-owned company with the partnership of Wayne, Betty, David, and Greg. When Wayne was not working, he loved to mow his neighbors' yards and travel in his motorhome. He also enjoyed restoring old cars and trucks. He was a member of City View Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School.
Wayne is survived by his wife of sixty-two years, Betty Strayhorn of the home, and two sons, David Wayne Strayhorn & wife Shana and Gregory Nolan Strayhorn & wife Danica all of Wichita Falls, Texas. Wayne also leaves behind two grandchildren, Sarah England & husband Caleb and Kyle Grove & wife Alaynna, and one great grandchild, Brynlee Grove.
Wayne is preceded in death by two brothers, Jim Strayhorn and Jess Strayhorn, and one sister, Pat Mercer.
Visitation will be Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at Sullivan Funeral Home from 1:00 pm until funeral services begin.
Memorials can be given to City View Baptist Church or Beyond Faith Hospice.
