Clifford Daniel Winship, 88 of Vernon, Texas passed away on Saturday, December 14, 2024, in Vernon, Texas.
Memorial services will be held Thursday, December 19, 2024, at 2:00 pm at Second Baptist Church.
Clifford was born Friday, November 27, 1936, in Spencerville, Oklahoma. He was the son of the late Anderson Winship and the late Ada Mae Frazier Winship. He married Doris Billy on August 16, 1967, in Vernon, Texas. He graduated Rattan High School in 1957 and was a stand-out athlete. He also served in the Texas Army National Guard. He worked for Wright Brand Foods for thirty-seven years in the ham-boning department. He loved to fish, and he was an avid Dallas Cowboys and Vernon Lions fan. He attended and supported all Vernon sporting events. He was a member of Second Baptist Church.
Clifford was the nephew of Tobias Frazier who was one of the original fourteen Choctaw Indian Code Talkers in World War I. They pioneered the use of American Indian languages as military code.
Clifford is survived by his wife, Doris Winship of the home; two daughters, Rita Martin and Sandra Kay Hall both of Vernon, Texas; one son, Randall Winship of Vernon, Texas; ten grandchildren, Tandy Martin, Deana Woods, Brittani Christopher, Candis Smith, Brandy Hall, Kylie Winship, Kaison Winship, Clayton Koch, Andrue Koch, and Bailey Koch; sixteen great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. Clifford also leaves behind eight siblings.
Clifford is preceded in death by his daughter, Sharon Winship on July 25, 2012, and five siblings.
Celebration services will be held, Saturday, December 21, 2024, at 1:30 pm at Choctaw Community Center in Antlers, Oklahoma.
Memorials may be given to Hospice of Wichita Falls, Vernon Boys & Girls Club, or the Second Baptist Church of Vernon.
