In Loving Memory of Darrol Groth

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Darrol Groth, a loving father, devoted husband, and cherished Nanadaddy to his grandchildren, who passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, January 4, 2025.

Funeral services will be held Friday, January 10, 2025, at 3:00 pm at Sullivan Funeral Home Chapel.

Darrol was born Saturday, October 28, 1944, in Cheyenne, Wyoming. He was the son of the late Leslie Albert Groth and the late Anne Louise Henninger Groth. He married Mary Sheridan on May 12, 1979, in Vernon, Texas. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1969 until 1973 as a medic. He graduated from the University of Florida with a master's degree in psychology. He was a member of Southern Rod Makers, Colorado Rod Makers, and Catskills Rod Makers Group. Darrol was also a board member for the Vernon Boys & Girls Club.

Darrol was a man of deep affection for his family and was known for his kind heart and gentle spirit. He found great joy in trout fishing, a passion that he shared with those he loved. His craftsmanship with bamboo fly rods was a testament to his patience and precision, mirroring the qualities that endeared him to all who knew him.

Darrol is survived by three daughters, Laura Wood & husband Hunter of Chico, Texas, Annie Gilot & husband Max of Vernon, Texas and Melissa Hartig & husband David of Elgin, Texas and grandchildren, Molly Hartig, Isabel Wood, Elise Wood, Claire Gilot, and Noelle Gilot. Darrol also leaves behind his nieces and nephews, Vern Leslie Groth, Nancy Groth, Susan Wilde, and Frederick Dan Groth, and his sister-in-law, Jan Groth.

Darrol is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Groth on November 12, 2024, his parents Leslie & Anna Groth, and two brothers, Duane Leslie Groth and Frederick Albert Groth.

Darrol's memory will live on in the hearts of his daughters, granddaughters, and all who were fortunate enough to be part of his life. His legacy of love, kindness, and dedication to his family will continue to inspire and be cherished by those who remain.

He will be deeply missed, but his love and memories will forever be with us.

Memorials can be given to Vernon Boys & Girls Club or Wilbarger Humane Society.
