David Morrison Kemp, 77 of Vernon, Texas passed away on Sunday, August 17, 2025, in Lubbock, Texas.

A memorial service will be held Friday, August 22, 2025, at 10:00 am at Sullivan Funeral Home Chapel.

David was born Wednesday, September 10, 1947, in Ontario, Canada. He was the son of the late Joseph Kemp and the late Eleanor Cruise Kemp.

David spent most of his adult life in California working in the California Police Department.  During these years he and his wife became parents to a beautiful baby girl, Julie.  In 2006, after retiring in Texas, David married Debbie Ann Reasor.

David was a member of the United States Marine Corps for nine years, and he was a retired CSI Investigator. He was a Chaplain at several facilities over the years and he loved to tell the story of the time he got to be a private bodyguard for Billy Graham. He was a member of U.S.M.C. For Life and was also a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

David is survived by his wife, Debbie Kemp, his twin sister, Dale Karen Whalen, his sister, Janis Andra Kemp, and his daughter, Julie Marie Kemp. He also leaves behind two step children, Mindi Flynn (and husband Shannon), and Dustin Plummer.  David also leaves behind seven grandchildren, Haylee Stranger, Harrison Stranger, Parker Flynn, Karter Flynn, Saydi Flynn, Chayse Plummer, and Ethan Plummer.

David is preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Blair Kemp and a grandson, Jakob Plummer.
