Dennis "Spanky"
Herd Mayberry
Jul 29, 1962 — Apr 30, 2024
Dennis "Spanky" Herd Mayberry, 61 of Chillicothe, Texas passed away on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, in Vernon, Texas.
Funeral services will be scheduled at a later date.
Dennis was born Sunday, July 29, 1962, in Vernon, Texas. He was the son of the late Larry Mayberry and Nina Kay Hannah Ledbetter. He married Shelly Ward on May 22, 1980, in Vernon, Texas.
During Dennis' younger years he worked beside his granddad on a ranch and then as a farmhand. In 1982 he took over as Water Superintendent for the City of Chillicothe and then later for the City of Granger. He would later follow in his dad's footsteps as a trucker which came naturally. First, he drove a flatbed then tanker and on to cow hauler. He loved teaching others everything he could about the trade. The other truckers often refer to him as a Legend, sharing stories of him teaching them how to drive or haul cattle. He loved the animals and the adventure, mostly in that order. But what he loved the most was his daughter, and she went when she could. It was at that time he was the proudest and happiest of all.
He was a member of First Baptist Church in Chillicothe, Texas.
Those he leaves behind are his daughter, Cassie Mayberry of Chillicothe, Texas; two brothers, Wayne Mayberry of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Phillip Mayberry of Aledo, Texas, and his mother, Kay Ledbetter of Wichita Falls, Texas.
Those that go before him are his brother Kenneth Mayberry; sister Lisa Oliver; father Larry Mayberry, and grandparents, Nina Hannah, and Pete & Ollie Mayberry.
