Doris was born to Ed and Ella Thomason on August 13, 1931, in Amherst, TX. Her family moved to Plainview, TX when she was five. There she met Dan Caylor, and they married December 15, 1946. They started their family in 1948 and moved to Littlefield, TX for a short time, then to Levelland, TX where they raised their three daughters, Sharon, Dana, and Donita. After her daughters were married, Dan and Doris moved to Seagoville, TX and then to Waco, TX where they operated a longhorn cattle ranch. Doris and Dan worked together all their years of marriage. Dan was an entrepreneur which led to a variety of business ventures and Doris (sometimes reluctantly) was his biggest cheerleader and business partner. His businesses included a dairy farm, an auto supply store, a gravel pit, a dump truck service, a racetrack, a beauty shop, a taxi service, a charter aircraft service, a golf course sand brokerage, and a longhorn cattle ranch. After Dan passed away in 2009, Doris moved to Frisco, Tx, then to Vernon, TX.

She is preceded in death by Dan Caylor, husband of 62 years, Ed and Ella Thomason, her parents, Marvin Thomason, her brother, Margaret Johnson, her sister, and Shanna Wright Vick, her granddaughter. Those left to cherish her memory are her three daughters: Sharon Zibton and husband Tom of Fairview, TX, Dana Wright Dickerson of Vernon, TX, and Donita Cato and husband Terry of Vernon, TX; eight grandchildren and their spouses; Keith Blair and wife Carla of Millsap, TX, Kelley Cato and wife Tracy of Krum, TX, Tonya Tapp and husband Michael of Dallas, TX, Shanna Vick's husband James of Forney, TX, Shelley Streit and husband Jason of Vernon, TX, Steven Cato and wife Dacia of Justin, TX, Jamie Prince and husband Mat of Greenville, Tx, Matthew Wright and wife Tosha of Lone Oak, Tx, John Cato and wife Amilia of Quanah, TX; twenty-one great-grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; three sisters-in-law: Rosemary Norfleet, Lana Caylor, Dottie Caylor; thirteen nieces and nephews; and one honorary grandson: Stacy Parks.
