Doris Jean
Grogan
Feb 12, 1926 — Jul 7, 2022
Waxahachie
Doris Jean Wilkinson Grogan passed away peacefully in Waxahachie Texas on July 7, 2022. She was 96 years old. Doris was born and raised in Vernon. A fun-loving game player Doris attended West Vernon schools until she was required to transfer to Vernon High School to finish. She loved playing basketball and volleyball and baseball. She and her three sisters and one brother were very close with their parents Willie and Wade Wilkinson who raised the children with a profound Christian faith. Their extended families included many cousins among the Hallford family descendants. She maintained her Vernon friendships throughout her life. She and Doug were famous for their surprise visits with friends and families as they passed through almost every small town in Texas. They loved to holiday at Laughlin NV, where Doris was known for her good luck at the slot machines.
Doris spent much of her adult years in Kermit Texas after she married Douglas Grogan in 1944. They had three children, Mike, Diane and Ray. She was always a "ball of energy" and loved to play pranks on friends and strangers alike. She was a hard worker who operated several small businesses including a self-storage business and the HVAC business that she and Doug owned and ran for many years. She loved to travel around the USA in their motor home. Later, they spent summers at their vacation home in Pagosa Springs, Colorado, fishing and making many friends over the years. Fishing on a clear lake was her favorite pastime there.
Doris also collected friends in the 25+ years that Doug was employed by El Paso Natural Gas Company. Most of those old friends have passed away over the decades since retirement, but she never forgot the wonderful memories. Surviving Doris are her three adult children and their families with nearly a dozen grandchildren and one surviving sister, Olis Williams with whom she was able to celebrate Olis's 100 th birthday last year. She will be missed by her extended family and friends.
