Dorothy Mae Michael, age 90, of Vernon, TX, went to be with the LORD on January 18th, in Vernon, TX. Born Dorothy Mae Scott, April 25, 1932, to LeRoy A. (Ad) Scott and Rosie (Rosa Lee) Fennel Scott, in Hillsboro, TX. A brave, courageous woman and loving mother, she faithfully served her LORD, family, country and community. She served alongside her military husband in a supportive role, moving to many states and Canada; then, after living many years in OR, lived in Vernon the last (46) years of her life. Preceded in death by her parents, siblings Mary Scott, Louise Kemp, Robert Scott, Lois Condon, James Scott and son, Bobby Michael. Dorothy is survived by son Ron Michael (the late Diane), Janet Roten (Danny), and Tracy Yates (Tom), along with her precious grandchildren and great grandchildren.
When three of her four children were grown, Dorothy went back to school in Vernon, earning her LVN license at age 45. She excelled in her career and is fondly remembered for her 30 years of excellence as a nurse.
"Her children arise up and call her blessed". Proverbs 31:28. Dorothy was a loving, devoted mom, grandma and Nana.
Proverbs 31:26 "She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness". Dorothy was kind, loving, looking for the good in others, with a sweet smile for everyone.
Proverbs 31:13– "she works willingly with her hands". Mom was an expert seamstress, sewing dresses, daily, for my cousin Earlene, whom she babysat. She had jobs in Vernon including the pants factory. She made beautiful clothes for her children and grands and greats. She loved to cook and bake and taught us to set a beautiful family dinner table and to keep our homes.
She was a long-time member of First Baptist Church of Vernon, TX, and active as her Sunday school class treasurer and Sr. Adult Sunday School Dept. secretary.
A visitation will be held at Sullivan Funeral Home, Friday, January 20th, at 10-11:30 AM. Her Funeral service will at Sullivan Funeral Home Chapel, at 2 PM, officiated by her pastor, Brooks Kimmey, followed by a graveside service at Wilbarger Memorial Park, under the direction of Sullivan Funeral Home.
Memorials can be made to Disabled American Veterans.
