Edward Larome Gates, age 59 of Vernon, Texas died Friday, August 23, 2024, in Wichita Falls, Texas

Funeral services will be held Friday, August 30, 2024, at 2:00 pm at Sullivan Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Darrell Willie officiating. Burial will follow at Wilbarger Memorial Park under the direction of Sullivan Funeral Home.

Edward was born April 27, 1965, in Vernon, Texas. He was the third born child to Maggline Gates and the late Edward Winston Gates, Sr.

Edward spent his early childhood years in Vernon, Texas. He also lived in Aurora, Colorado. He worked for Childress Myles at the Feed Store doing odd jobs. Later in life, he worked in the auto detail business with his friend Miguel.

He attended Vernon Public Schools. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church, 1001 Houston Street in Vernon, Texas.

Edward was a beloved son, husband, father, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. He was a Mama's boy at heart. Like his father, he was a devoted die hard Denver Broncos fan. He was a simple happy man, and he loved his family. He had a caring heart and laugh. He had a unique smile, and his sensual personality was full of jokes and high siding. He showed love to everyone who came in contact with him. He will be missed.

On October 20, 2015, he married Satandra Callaway.

He leaves behind his lovely, devoted mother, Maggline Gates; his loving wife, Satandra Gates; his only son, Edmond Gates, Sr. (Shelby); his youngest daughter, Tina Simpson (Thalamus); his stepchildren, Brandon, Ririeasha, and Shakara; his grandchildren, Dylric, Tianna, Edmond Jr., Delilah, Zaylyn and Quincy; his great grandchild, R'tist; his sisters, Shelia (Ralph), April, Margaret, Vickey, Beverly, Sylvia, Zelda, and Gloria; his brothers, Edwin (Katrice), Michael, and Randy (NaKisha); his uncles, Eare Brown, Mushin Shaheed, and Larry Brown; his aunts, Mary Ann Thomas, Barbara Thomas, Susan Brown, Gwen Goodman, Esther Gates, and Jessie Mae Gates; his cousins, Lillie Pearl Griffen, Bethenia Sumpter, Hortense Brown, and Mildred Craig; his cousin-in-law, Yvonne White, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He is preceded in death by his brother, Edward Winston Gates, Jr.; his sisters, Constance L. Gates and Freda Mooney; his daughter, Sheena R. Simpson; his aunts, Diana Jemison, Carolyn Brown and Mary Lou Gates; his cousins, Alicia Thomas and Gina White, and his uncle, Gilbert "Chick" Gates.

Visitation will be Thursday, August 29, 2024, from 6:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Sullivan Funeral Home.
