It was March 28, 1924 and the storm raged as three-year old Nettie rode with her father to get the doctor—her mother was at home in labor. The winds caught a piece from a barn and sent it through the windshield of the car. Nettie lost an eye that day, but gained a little sister, Elinor Lydia Wiederanders. Later their brother J.A. was born. Their parents, Carl and Lydia Wiederanders, were gentle, hard-working Lutherans.

Elinor graduated from Oklaunion High School and went off to North Texas State College to study, but that venture was cut short because of World War II. She and her sister went to Ft. Worth to work at Consolidated Air where Elinor climbed on the B-36s to make sure the workers had done their timesheets. At the end of the war, she went back home and in 1945 married Edward Roth of Harrold who navigated B-52s for the Air Force.

During the 22 years serving in the Air Force, Ed and Elinor took their family with them, living in New York, Texas, Massachusetts, Washington, New Mexico, and California. After leaving the Air Force, they lived in the Vernon Texas area. Elinor was a gentle, caring, welcoming, giving, cheerful, witty, talented, hardworking, dedicated wife, mother, and friend. She was beautiful and wore her rings and earrings everyday of her life. She volunteered at her children's schools, her church, and at the hospital. Elinor served as a member and officer of the Lutheran church women, the Home Demonstration Club, and the Hospital Auxiliary for almost 50 years. When her children were grown, she worked at the Elliott Gin, the Oklaunion Post Office, and as a trained caregiver.

Elinor loved her children more than anything and lit up with the biggest smile ever when all five surprised her for her 99th birthday. She is survived by her five children, Glynda Hamilton, Vancouver, WA, Jeri Pitts, Ennis, TX, Ed Roth, Merritt Island, Florida, Jon Roth, Oklaunion, TX, and Pam Roth, Electra, TX. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Shelley Pitts, Stacia Hamilton, Eddie Roth, TJ Hamilton, Chuck Roth, Cole Hamilton (wife Katie), Rachel Roth, and Genny Roth, as well as, seven great-grandchildren, their spouses, and ten great-great-grandchildren. Elinor's sister-in-law, Lydia Roth, was her faithful visitor and friend. Her sister's children held a special place in her life. She loved and appreciated her children's friends as if they were her own, as well as, Hailey and Ali at Advanced Care.

Elinor came into the world with a storm and went out in peace to meet her Savior November 2, 2023.

Visitation will be Friday, November 10, 2023, at Sullivan Funeral Home from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

Funeral services will be held at St Paul Lutheran Church, Saturday, November 11, 2023, at 2:00 pm with Pastor Robert Holaday officiating. Burial will follow at Wilbarger Memorial Park under the direction of Sullivan Funeral Home.
