Elmer Jean Brooks Whiteside transitioned over on the heavenly side on November 26, 2022. She was born to the late Elmer and Georgia Brooks on July 16, 1933 in Concord, Texas. Elmer Jean was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, mother and grandmother to many, as well as a loving friend. She was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church, Vernon, Texas, where she served on the Mother's Board, Naomi Circle, Kitchen Committee, and earned several awards for her dedication and achievements at the church as well as helping around the community and also doing volunteer work for the Booker T. Washington Gymnasium.

Elmer Jean loved to take morning walks and she never had the desire to drive a vehicle. She enjoyed cooking, watching the Price Is Right, Wheel Of Fortune, and she enjoyed watching all sports, but she mainly found joy in serving the Lord.

On June 18, 2022 she received the Juneteenth African American Living Legacy Award.

Elmer Jean preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Judy Ann Whiteside in 1974, her husband Malcom Whiteside in 1993, and her son Melvin Whiteside in 2021.

She leaves to cherish her memories to her sons, Elmer Glenn Whiteside & friend Brenda Hall of Vernon, Texas, Danny Joe Whiteside & wife Dora of Vernon, Texas, Mitchell Whiteside & wife Josie of Cleburne, Texas, Vincent Whiteside of Vernon, Texas, Kevin Wayne Whiteside and wife Brandi of Vernon, Texas, Tony Laterence Whiteside of Vernon, Texas; one daughter, Crystal Whiteside of Vernon, Texas; eleven grandchildren; twenty-five great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews and numerous friends.

Funeral services will be held Friday, December 2, 2022 at Calvary Baptist Church at 2:00 PM with Rev. E.J. Tyson and Rev. Early Williams, III officiating. Interment will be at Eastview cemetery under the direction of Sullivan Funeral Home.
