Elsie Mae Ashby, 93 of Vernon, Texas died on Monday, February 28, 2022, in Vernon, Texas.

Services will be Wednesday, March 2, 2022 at 2:00 pm at First Baptist Church with Dr. Derrell Monday officiating. Interment will be held at Eastview Cemetery under the direction of Sullivan Funeral Home.

Elsie was born Tuesday, April 10, 1928 in Wilbarger County, Texas, she was the daughter of the late George Goins and the late Bertha Crisp  Goins. She married Calvin Dewey Ashby on June 8, 1947 in Fargo, TX., he preceded her in death on February 22, 2013.  She was a retired school teacher and member of The Texas Retired Teachers Association. She was a member of First Baptist Church and she was director and organizer of Joy Express for twenty-one years at First Baptist Church. Elsie was also honored in 2019 as Women of the year at the Doans Annual May Picnic.

Elsie is survived by her sons, David Ashby and wife Nanette of Vernon, TX and Philip Ashby and wife Cathy of Abilene, TX, daughter, Brenda Mooty and husband Greg of Austin, TX. Seven grandchildren Chad Ashby, Scott Ashby, Doug Downes, Allison Davis, Kirk Ashby, Jay Ashby, and Carly Potter and nine great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband and her son, Michael Dewey Ashby on September 23, 2019

Visitation will be Tuesday, March 1, 2022 at 6:00 to 7:00 pm at Sullivan Funeral Home.

Memorials can be made to First Baptist Church.
