Obituary

Ethel Faye Smith, 75, of Wichita Falls, Texas, died on Sunday, September 11, 2022, in Wichita Falls, Texas.

Services will be Saturday, September 17, 2022, at 1:00 pm at Sullivan Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating will be Pastor Norris Thomas. Interment will be held at EastView Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Sullivan Funeral Home.

Ethel Faye was born Friday, April 18, 1947, in Fort Worth, Texas, to Johnny B. Murray and Betty Moore Lancaster, mothered by Mary Lee James Murray. Ethel Faye met and married Laymon "Butch" Smith, Jr. on December 28, 1968, in Vernon, Texas. To this union, together, they raised seven children, and he preceded her in death on November 29, 2000.

Ethel Faye, affectionally called "Faye," enjoyed her alone time with God, being with family, reading her bible, listening to her gospel music,  cooking, loved helping people and would give her very last to help anyone. Her motto was, "If God blesses me with it, then I'll be willing to give it." She was a loving and sweet soul who looked for the good in everyone. She was a peacemaker, yet a witty jokester who loved to joke and stay hip, as she would call it. Faye was very dedicated to everything that her hands touched, so after working for CertianTeed for 21 years, she retired to travel and be around family more.

Through her unwavering faith, Faye was a spiritual fighter who overcame many obstacles in her life. From being in a coma after having her first child to car wrecks and several health issues, it was nothing but God that brought her through as she was by all means a survivor. It wasn't until this second stroke that God saw fit to take His faithful servant home. A beautiful  testament to 75 years of a job well done being a wonderful Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Auntie, Friend, and Servant.

Faye was preceded in death by her husband Laymon Smith, Jr., brothers Johnny L. Murray and Jesse B. Murray, and sister Joyce Moore. Mothers Betty Moore Lancaster and Mary Lee James Murray and Father Johnny B. Murray, Sr. and grandson Kavoucia Davis.

Faye's legacy lives on through her children, Wendell (Carolyn) Smith, Laymon "Bam" Smith III, Sherry (Tony) Williams, Timothy (Teresa) Smith, Zaundria Venegas, Sharmilla Smith, Sean (Erica) Smith. Also, her siblings Mayme (Al) Rogers, Sherial (Robert) Jamison, Mary "Von" (Degaulle) Brown, Johnny Ray Murray, Johnny B. (Teresa) Murray, Jr., Rita Moore, Kenny (Carolyn) Moore, John Moore, Eugene Moore, Bruce (Lisa) Moore, and Denise (Charles) Moore.  Several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Faye also leaves behind her close friends Rosie McGrew and Joann Eden.  Thank God for all the fond memories, laughter, and love that our mother provided to us, and may you always live in our hearts and never be far from our minds.
