Evelyn Marie McCardell, 84 of Vernon, Texas died on Sunday, January 1, 2023 in Vernon, Texas.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 4, 2023 at 1:00 pm at Faith United Methodist Church with Rev. Terry Tamplin officiating. Interment will be at Eastview Cemetery under the direction of Sullivan Funeral Home.

Evelyn was born Thursday, June 9, 1938 in Wilbarger County, Texas, a daughter of the late John Elmo Hays and Nola Morgan Hays.

Evelyn graduated from Vernon High School in 1956. She married Wilfred "Pete" Wyatt McCardell on August 22, 1958. He preceded her in death on December 4, 1989.

Evelyn worked at F.W. Woolworth as a teenager and M.E. Moses later. She was a docent on weekends at Red River Valley Museum.

Being an Air Force wife, Evelyn lived in different places. She was always active in different activities where she lived. She was an active member of Faith United Methodist Church in Vernon, Texas. Evelyn was a member of TOPS 144, Vernon Education Extension Association, and The Happy Huggers of Faith United Methodist Church.

Evelyn is survived by daughter, Beverly Cannedy and son, John (Jennifer) McCardell of Vernon, Texas; daughter-in-law, Nancy McCardell of Warr Acres, Oklahoma; five grandsons; Emitt (Tracy) McCardell of San Antonio, Texas, Chris (Hanna) Cannedy of Vernon, Texas, Steven (Emily) Cannedy of Wichita Falls, Texas, David (Candace) McCardell of Vernon, Texas, and Gabriel Barrera of Wichita Falls, Texas; one granddaughter, Melanie McCardell of San Perlita, Texas; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Barbara (Jerry) Brubaker and Johnnie Shelton both of Vernon, Texas.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, sons, Greg McCardell and Kent McCardell, two granddaughters, Heather Marie McCardell and Jamie Lee McCardell, and a great-granddaughter, Samantha Lee Jones.

Visitation will be Tuesday, January 3, 2023 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Sullivan Funeral Home.
