Floyd Douglas Miller II went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 1st, 2023, surrounded by his family in Amarillo, Texas.

Funeral services will be held Friday, October 6, 2023, at 10:00 am at Sullivan Funeral Home Chapel.

Doug was born on August 8th, 1947, in Iowa Park, Texas to Floyd Douglas Miller I, and Edna Mildred Miller. He lived on the family farm, where in the summer of 1951 he suffered an accident that almost took his life. At the age of three years old, Doug was hospitalized for over a month and was not expected to live. The headlines of the Wichita Daily Times read: "Boy Wins Battle for Life After Fall from Father's Truck". Doug underwent extensive therapy for months following his release from the hospital and he would learn to live the rest of his life with a traumatic brain injury.

He met Jesus when he was a young boy in the Methodist Church, where his mother made sure he faithfully attended Sunday School. Doug loved old hymns and thought up until his last days that we should only sing old hymns.

Doug lost his father when he was just sixteen years old to cancer. He and his mother relocated to Wichita Falls where he attended and graduated from Hirschi High School.

He went on to attend Vernon Regional Jr. College, where he met the one love of his life Kay Ellen Shirley. They fell in love and married on December 23rd, 1972, in Crowell, Texas.

They made a home in Vernon where Doug along with his mom and stepdad, Ed Edsell, owned and operated the KOA campground. Together they had two daughters just a short eleven months apart: Mildred Leanna, and Melissa Diana.

Doug went on to work at the Waggoner Ranch for almost twenty years. He was a hard worker, although it was rigorous work, he enjoyed being outside, and making the grounds of the ranch beautiful.

When their daughters got older and married, he and Kay moved to Lake Kemp, bought a pontoon boat, and loved lake life. They also loved to travel together and drove all over the country. Doug lost Kay on November 19th, 2009, after almost 37 years of marriage.

In 2018, Doug moved to Glenrose, Texas to be near his daughter Melissa and her family. He loved living in the country. Doug also loved his family and attended countless football games, track meets, baseball games, and really enjoyed Summer's Last Blast with his grandsons in Vernon, TX.

In 2021, he moved to his final home in Amarillo, Texas to be near his oldest daughter Leanna and her family. During this time, he was blessed to live life with his four great grandchildren.

He was passionate about black coffee, unsweet tea, chicken fried steak, cheeseburgers, steak & potatoes, and just about any food you put before him except brussel sprouts. He actually ate the 72oz steak at the Big Texan in Amarillo, TX in the late 90's. He didn't get his meal for free or his picture on the wall because it took him too long to eat it, but he finished the whole thing. Doug was a fan of the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers. A true Texan!

He loved old westerns and old country music. His handshake was the firmest, his hugs were the biggest, and his voice was the loudest.

He was preceded in death by his father, mother, stepfather, and the love of his life Kay. He is survived by his daughter Leanna and her husband Jason Craft of Amarillo, daughter Melissa and husband Rodney Garrard of Glenrose. He was a proud Grandpa to ten grandchildren, Tyler Craft and wife Brittany, Emily Scheve and husband Bret, Kennidi Hancock and husband Carson, Spencer Craft and wife Kenzie, Jordan Garrard, Morgan Ghia and her husband Steven, Colten Hays and his fiancé Hailey, Gunnar Hays and his fiancé Jenna, Brysan Garrard and his wife Randi Lee, and his youngest grandchild Trafton Garrard. He had four great grandchildren and got to celebrate with his family that there are two more great grandkids currently on the way.

Floyd Douglas Miller was a walking miracle and he leaves behind a great and big legacy with his family.
