Gayla Raines DeHoyos, 58 of Vernon, Texas passed away on Sunday, October 13, 2024, in Vernon, Texas.
Memorial services will be held Friday, October 18, 2024, at 11:00 am at Leo Brittain Field at Lion Stadium under the direction of Sullivan Funeral home with Mr. Doug Patterson officiating.
Gayla was born Saturday, April 16, 1966, in Vernon, Texas. She was the daughter of the late Dennis Raines and the late Trucella "Tony" Graf Raines. She married Tony DeHoyos on August 18, 1989, in Vernon, Texas. She graduated from Vernon High School in 1984. She also earned an Associate Degree in Nursing from Vernon Regional Junior College and worked for Dr. Maniago. Gayla later worked for Vernon ISD for over twenty four years where she started as a substitute teacher and then worked in the ISS classroom and as the school librarian. She was the Crime Stoppers School Advocate and was a member of the VHS Booster Club. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. Gayla was loved and respected by her colleagues, and she touched the hearts of so many of her students at VHS. Her beautiful smile and contagious laughter will be dearly missed.
Gayla is survived by her husband, Tony DeHoyos of the home; two sons, Seth Raines & wife Meagan of Bristow, Oklahoma and Daniel DeHoyos & wife Rebecca of Mesa, Arizona; one daughter, Sara Raines of Vernon, Texas, and two sisters, Kristi Fawcett & husband Ken of Royse City, Texas and Abby Raines of Vernon, Texas. Gayla also leaves behind eleven grandchildren.
Memorials can be made to the Vernon High School Media Center and Library.
