Gayle
Johnson
d. Jan 27, 2025
Jacquelin "Gayle" Johnson entered this world on January 27, 1947. She went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on her 78th birthday in 2025 from Broken Arrow, OK.
Although she battled lung cancer since 2021, God graced her with some very good days with her family. Gayle or "Nana" as her grandchildren called her, was known for her servant's heart throughout her life.
Gayle was born in Vernon, Texas to the late Loyd C. "Jack" Peterson and Gloria Rushing Peterson. She attended school and worked various jobs there. She professed her faith in Jesus at a little neighborhood-grocery-store-turned-church as a young girl and was baptized in a stock tank north of Vernon in the winter. She spent her life honoring Jesus by caring and serving others as He did. She loved to cook for people and loved gatherings where she could make cake for everyone to enjoy.
Gayle lived a short time in Wynnewood, OK when her daughter, Dona Gayle Wilson, was born in nearby Paul's Valley, but she returned to Vernon where she raised Dona.
She married Frank Johnson in 1991 and resided in Amarillo, TX until his death. In 2003, she moved to Broken Arrow, OK to live with her daughter, Dona and son-in-law Jason until her death.
Aside from her love of Jesus, Gayle's next greatest loves on this earth were her grandchildren Jacob Parks, 20 and Callie Parks, 17 both of Broken Arrow.
When she felt well and often time when not, she followed to see and hear them in many Broken Arrow marching band, indoor percussion, choir and show choir concerts and competitions across the state and country.
If you talked to her about her faith in Jesus, a highlight she'd always tell you about was when she joined members of First Baptist Church Broken Arrow and Community Baptist Church Coweta on a mission trip to an orphanage in Cambodia in 2014. Today she wears a bracelet they made her in gratitude for her going. That trip made a lasting impact on her.
Gayle is preceded in death by her parents, her youngest brother Rickey Peterson and great-nephew Koby Peterson.
Those left to honor her memory by the lives they live include her daughter and son-in-law, Dona Gayle (Wilson) and Jason Parks; grandson, Jacob Parks; granddaughter, Callie Parks all of Broken Arrow, OK; her brother and sister-in-law, Pat and Kay Peterson of Burneyville, OK; sister-in-law, Brenda Peterson of Vernon, TX; niece and her husband, Tracy and David Henderson of Broken Arrow, OK; nephew and his wife, Toby and Misty Peterson of Elgin, OK; niece and her husband, Tana and Tim Roberts of Dallas, TX; nephew and his wife, Kyle and Cindy Peterson of Wichita Falls, TX plus a host of living family-in-law she gained with her daughter's marriage to Jason.
Her family would like to thank her St. Francis hospice caregivers. As difficult of a time it was, they worked diligently to keep her comfortable while lovingly encouraging her family see her through those final weeks.
