Henry Mendoza Leija, 78 of Vernon Texas, passed away on Wednesday February 11, 2026, in Wichita Falls, Texas

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday February 18, 2026, at 1:00pm at Sullivan Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Eastview Cemetery under the direction of Sullivan Funeral Home.

Henry was born July 15, 1947, to the late Nicholas Leija and the late Maria Mendoza. Henry was a passionate musician who dedicated his life to writing and composing songs, expressing his deep love for music. Known for his ever-present smile, he also had a great fondness for cars. For many years, Henry was the proud owner and operator of Henry's Paint and Body. In the late 1970s, he and his brothers, known as Los Hermanos Leija, recorded several 45s and an album, with their music now featured in the Arhoolie Foundation/Frontera Collection on YouTube. Henry was also a former Deacon and a dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus at Holy Family Catholic Church. His legacy will be remembered through his music, his joyful spirit, and his contributions to his community.

Henry leaves behind his children, Lisa Leija, Linda Leija (husband- Louis), Diane Leija, Joann Leija (husband - Tavo), Angela Hollingsworth (husband Kennon), Christi Martinez (husband Aaron), Valorie Lopez (husband - David) Joanne Zuniga, Jeremy Zuniga, Serena Lira (granddaughter) and Dalton Price, along with thirty-two grandchildren and thirty-six great grandchildren. Henry also leaves behind his siblings Gilbert Leija (wife Irene), Robert Leija and Janie Briones (husband - Ismael).

Henry is preceded in death by his wife, Janie, his siblings: Elias and Alfredo, and two children - Henry Leija Jr., and Justin Zuniga.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 6-8pm at Sullivan Funeral Home.
