Hilda Cavazos, 78 of Vernon, Texas passed away on Sunday, April 21, 2024, in Vernon, Texas.

A memorial service will be held Friday April 26, 2024 at 10:00am at the Sullivan Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Rusty Dickerson officiating.

Hilda was born Wednesday, July 4, 1945 in Reynosa, Tamaulipas, Mexico, to the late Manuel Valdez and the late Maria Luisa Elizondo Valdez. Hilda married Benito Cavazos on January 26, 1981 in Edinburg, Texas. Hilda began her career teaching school in Hereford, Texas and McAllen Texas, before she answered the call to serve in the ministry. She first attended the Southern Methodist University where she became ordained as an elder. She would serve in many locations including San Pablo U.M.C. in Hereford, Texas, San Juan U.M.C. in Plainview, Texas, Wesley U.M.C. in Borger Texas, La Tridad U.M.C. in LaMesa, Texas and finally Faith U.M.C. in Vernon, Texas where they made there home. While in La Mesa Hilda joined the Rotary Club. Under the umbrella of the Northwest Texas conference, Hilda served as a Director of Hispanic Ministries, Director of Camp Amigos, Board of Ordained Ministry, and the Board of Commission and Race.  Hilda and her family were members of Faith Methodist Church.

Hilda is survived by her husband of the home Benito Cavazos, her children Sylvia Martinez and husband Bobby of Vernon, TX ,Hilda Moreno and husband Ricky of Mansfield, TX, Hector Reyna and wife Christina of Hereford, TX, Luis Reyna and wife Lena of Fort Worth, TX, and Marissa Hernandez and husband Jose of Amarillo, TX. Hilda also leaves behind eighteen grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, two brothers and four sisters.
