Horace "Doyle" Hall, Jr., was born July 11, 1948, in Wilbarger County Texas, and died June 18, 2024, in Wichita Falls, Texas, at the age of 75 following a long and complicated illness secondary to Covid-19.

Graveside services will be Friday, June 28, 2024, at 1:00 pm at Eastview Cemetery under the direction of Sullivan Funeral Home.

He attended several public schools as a youngster and moved to Vernon, Texas, at the age of 14 to live with his guardians Ruby and E.A. (Dodie) Miller. He was a proud graduate of the Vernon High School class 1967. He was an active member of the FFA and 4H and participated in swine production and showing. Doyle went to work early in life and was part of the Distributive Education program, working as a plumber's apprentice. After graduation from high school, he went to work in Vernon at the local Stein Hall plant. While there he rose to a leadership position but continued his plumbing training. He also joined the Vernon Volunteer Fire Department, the first step of his dream career. After several years, an opportunity to become a full-time fire fighter set him on a life path - one of learning, serving, maturation, and leadership. Along the journey he rose to the rank of Captain and became one of the first EMTs in Vernon. He ultimately retired from the Department following a significant injury.

Doyle's second life-changing event happened when on May 7, 1982; he married his sweetheart Amelia Cook (VHS graduate 1970). Together they started their family in Vernon with the birth of their first and only child Pete Allen Hall. Pete became their pride and joy, and numerous family activities centered around him.

Doyle was an avid fisherman and a near professional quality water skier. The family spent much time at Lake Kemp. Also, Doyle's love of cars and drag racing became a part of family activities.

After Doyle's retirement from VFD, Amelia's job required moving to the DFW Metroplex where they ultimately settled in Midlothian, Texas. There Doyle worked driving school buses for handicapped children and worked with them in the classroom. In early 2020, Doyle contracted Covid-19 and was hospitalized for over 100 days. Finally, after months he partially recovered but suffered permanent kidney damage requiring dialysis. Shortly, after this Doyle suffered a second major blow with the loss of his wife Amelia to heart disease. In the wake of this devastation, he was blessed with a beautiful granddaughter, Penny Lane Hall, the daughter of Pete and Melissa Hall of Midlothian. His granddaughter was the apple of Doyle's eye up until the day of his death.

Doyle was preceded in death by his parents Horace Doyle Hall, Sr and Mary Christine Hall Dean,  sister Pat, and brother Monty. Survivors include loved ones Pete and wife Melissa, granddaughter Penny Lane and sister Stella Haas of Wichita Falls, as well as cousins, nieces, nephews, numerous friends, and multiple old firefighter friends. The family also would like to thank his close friend, Jay Lawson, who stayed by Doyle's side during his trials and tribulations.

Doyle was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be missed dearly by many. In lieu of flowers, donations can be given to the VFD or the local animal shelter.
