James Earl Reece, Sr., 65 of Savannah, Georgia passed away Wednesday, January 14, 2026, in Vernon, Texas.
Funeral services will be held Friday, January 23, 2026, at 11:00 am Sullivan Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Quinton Porter and Minister Dale Donnell officiating. Burial will follow at Wilbarger Memorial Park under the direction of Sullivan Funeral Home.
He was born July 24, 1960, in Vernon, Texas to Rosie Reece. He attended Vernon Public schools and graduated in 1979. He ran with the family tradition of running track. He did so well, it earned him the nickname "CT-Cottontail".
After high school he attended McMurray College where he married Lucinda Alcantar. They were blessed with four children. Later he moved to Amarillo where he worked at Hastings Warehouse for many years. He met his current wife, Esther while living in Amarillo, Texas. They were married on October 12, 2004, extending his family with six more children. They moved to Savannah, Georgia in March of 2015 where they resided until his passing.
His is preceded in death by loving parents, Rosie and Aldean Sims, Sr., grandparents, Elder John L and Lula Reece, aunt, Claudia Reece-Walker and uncles, Robert and Billie Reece.
He leaves behind six daughters and four sons, Grace (Tomas) Ortega of Vernon, Texas, Maricela Perkins of Abilene, Texas, Daisy (Jesus) Flores of Savannah, Georgia, Marcia (Danni) Montealbo of Metter, Georgia, Kevy Leiva of Amarillo, Texas, Veronica Leiva of Savannah, Georgia, James Earl Reece, Jr. of Abilene, Texas, Steven (Monica) Reece, Sr. of Abilene, Texas, Nelson (Sydney) Leiva of Savannah, Georgia, and Antonio Leiva, Jr. of Amarillo, Texas, three siblings, Darlene (Stevie) McGregor of Vernon, Texas, Jonathan Sims of Vernon, Texas and Aldean (Cynthia) Sims, Jr. of Vernon, Texas, his best friend, whom he considered a brother, Peter (Becky) Hines of Vernon, Texas, twenty nine grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and many aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, family and friends.
Visitation will be Thursday, January 22, 2026, from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Sullivan Funeral Home.
