Dr. Janice Blair Roberson passed to heaven on Wednesday, March 30, 2022, just as she lived in peace and triumph.

Janice was born on November 6, 1936 to Mary Gladys and Lester Floyd Blair in Vernon, Texas. She was the little sister of Duane Blair. She attended Vernon schools and became a cheerleader in high school, the head cheerleader her senior year. The traits of joy, happiness and encouraging others as a cheerleader continued throughout her life.

She married Joe Roberson on June 1, 1957 in Vernon, Texas. Together, they had three children. Although divorced many years later, they remained friends and united parents throughout her life.

She decided to return to college when her son, Doug, began kindergarten. She earned a bachelor's degree in education at Midwestern State University and began her career in education as a reading teacher at Vernon Intermediate school. She then earned her master's at MSU and became the counselor at Intermediate school.

She set a goal of earning her doctorate by her 50th year. Dr. Mom earned her doctorate from Texas Tech University in 1984. She became an associate professor and led the licensed professional counseling program at West Texas A&M University, where she taught and loved her students until her retirement in 2006.

She married Gardner Collins in 1994 in Canyon, Texas. Together they were dedicated to their families and traveling in retirement. Her greatest role was as Mimi to her grandchildren. She adored her grandchildren and worked hard to create memories with all of her family.

She was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in the Fall of 2008. Despite the progression of her disease, she continued to be a cheerleader to everyone she met.  Her ability to love others and be delighted to see them continued through until the last three days of her life.

What the enemy of God's people meant for destruction with Alzheimer's, she countered with love, kindness, joy and remained a cheerleader until the end.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her daughter, Lori Lee Roberson Ochoa and her brother, Duane Blair.

She is survived by: daughter, Lezlie Davis and husband Jim (Canyon), Doug Roberson and wife, Marni (Royse City), her grandchildren: Caleb Ochoa and Tiger Ochoa and wife, Lea (Greenville), Hamilton Stanfield and wife, Cheyenne (Amarillo), Alec Roberson and wife Abby (Dallas), Coleman Roberson, Avery Roberson and Madison Roberson (Fayetteville, Arkansas). She is also survived by great-grandchildren: Daxton, Piper, Kiptyn and Sayler Stanfield and Jaxon and Lori Ochoa.

Services will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, April 2nd at Sullivan Funeral Home in Vernon with burial at Eastview Memorial Park immediately following. Visitation will be at 1 pm on Saturday at the funeral home.
