Janice Laverne Schoppa, age 85, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 21, 2024.

Janice was born on May 9, 1938 in Vernon, Texas to Albert August Schoppa and Hulda Alvina Teinert Schoppa. Janice was a longtime resident of Vernon and had resided in Advanced Rehabilitation and Healthcare for the last four years.

Visitation will be at 1:00 pm on Friday, January 26, 2024 at Sullivan Funeral Home in Vernon. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 pm, Friday, January 26, 2024 in the Chapel at Sullivan Funeral in Vernon with Rev. Dr. Robert Holaday officiating. Burial will follow at the Electra Cemetery under the direction of Sullivan Funeral Home.

Janice lost her father while still a student in high school and went on to graduate from Harrold High School in Harrold, Texas. Janice was born in an era where hard work and family were of utmost importance.

She and her family were farmers in Rayland Community, west of Vernon, Texas. In 1940, when the Great Depression hit, the family relocated to Harrold, Texas where they would continue farming in the Elliott Community. Here she and her family joined the Emmanuel Lutheran Church. Sunday morning worship always held a sweet spot in Janice's heart.

Janice would complete confirmation during her teenage years and many of the bible verses she had to memorize were still just as fresh in her mind today. She related often that she could not have met the difficulties and challenges in life without Jesus. She took great comfort in knowing Jesus died for her, loved her, forgave her and will give her eternal life in heaven.

Janice was a longtime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Vernon, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her mother Hulda Schop pa; her father Albert August Schoppa; her twin sister, Janette Lavon Schoppa; sister, Lillie Mae Schoppa; and sister, Mary Frances Bredy (Otto); and brother Herbert Schoppa (Ethel Jane). She is survived by sister, Dorothy Mae Buch horn (Melvin); and brother Albert Schoppa, Jr. (Sallee) and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
