Obituary

Janis Viola (Long) Olinger passed away on Saturday, December 16, 2023 at the age of 75.

Graveside services will be held Friday, December 22, 2023, at 1:00pm at Eastview Cemetery under the direction of Sullivan Funeral Home with Dr. Derrell Monday officiating.

Janis was born on Friday, August 13, 1948 in Vernon, Texas.  She was the third child of four children born to the late Grady Casvell Long and the late Patsy Viola Long.

Janis married Fred Olinger on Easter morning, April 10, 2004 at Thousand Trails in Lake Texoma; they were married almost 20 years.

Janis dearly loved God, her husband, family, and friends.  Janis' favorite color was yellow, like the sunshine.  She was a ray of light everywhere she went.

Janis lived in Crowley, Texas.  She worked many years at Printpack in Grand Prairie, and retired from Harbison-Fischer in Crowley in 2004.  She then became the CEO of the Olinger Household.  She was a member of The Fountains Fellowship Church in Crowley, TX, and belonged to two bunco groups.  Janis was an avid golfer, loved to travel (especially camping with her family), and play games.  Hot dice was a favorite.  Affectionately referred to as the "Dancing Queen", she was notorious for her high kicks and spontaneous dance moves.  She was one half of the duo, "The Juggs" with her daughter Linda Domyanic.  They performed during car rides and private recording sessions.  Janis was an amazing cook and seamstress, and very crafty.  She regularly made works of art alongside her daughter Heather McWhirter.  Janis wasn't afraid to roll up her sleeves and get a little dirty.  She was the handiest of all.  She could fix anything.  There was not a task or project she could not complete; a gift she shared with her only son Christopher Domyanic.

She was predeceased by her father, Grady C. Long in 2013, mother, Patsy "Viola" Long in 2018, sister, Linda Gayle Long in 1947, and brother, Michael Ray Long in 2014.

She is survived by her husband, Fred Olinger of Crowley, TX, brother Larry Gene Long (Mary) of Royse City, TX, son, Christopher Lee Domyanic (Jessica) of Bowie, TX, daughter, Linda Denise Domyanic of Dallas, TX, daughter Heather Diane McWhirter (James) of Cleburne, TX, stepson James Olinger (Bethany) of Aledo, TX, seven grandchildren, Casey Benitez (Juan), Mackenzie Domyanic, Maxwell Mayes, Kaden Shelton, Hudson Shelton, Christian Olinger, Samantha Olinger, and one great grandchild Amelia Benitez.

Janis will be remembered for her love of life, her smile that could light up a room, and her contagious laughter.  Keep smiling, keep singing, keep dancing.  We love you, Mom.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
