Jewel Abston, 88 of Vernon, Texas died on Monday, October 17, 2022, in Crowell, Texas.

Services will be Saturday, October 22, 2022 at 10:00 am at Sullivan Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Daniel Robertson officiating.  Interment will be held at Wilbarger Memorial Park under the direction of Sullivan Funeral Home.

Jewel was born Wednesday, June 11, 1934 in Vernon, Texas. She was the daughter of the late Bernice Hopkins and the late Oma Richardson Hopkins. She married Robert W. Abston on December 4, 1979 in Vernon, Texas, he preceded her in death on February 14, 1992. Jewel graduated from Vernon Regional Junior College and was top of her class. She worked as a Licensed Vocational Nurse.  She retired from Vernon State Hospital, and Jewel worked at Vernon Care Center and Texoma Home Health.  She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Vernon Quilters Club, and Home Demonstration Club in Vernon. She was a homemaker.

Jewel is survived by her daughters, Mary Snyder of Altus, OK, Sandy Glaser of Vernon, TX and Doris Epperson of Holly Springs, MS. Her brother, Emory Hopkins of Oklaunion, TX, and sisters, Penny Jones of Sherman, TX and Barbara Jean Grammer of Enid, OK; Nine grandchildren, Faith, Hope, Charity, Carl, Tasha, John, Shelley, Jeff, and Daniel; Twenty-three great grandchildren; Twelve great-great grandchildren.

Visitation will be Friday, October 21, 2022 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Sullivan Funeral Home.

Memorials can be made to the Vernon College Nursing Program.
