John McSpadden, 89, passed away Saturday evening, March 12, 2022 in Vernon. A funeral service is planned for 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 16th at the Church of Christ in Quanah, with Mr. Albert Motsenbocker officiating. Interment will follow at Goodlett Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6-7 p.m., Tuesday evening at Smith Funeral Home.
John Wencil McSpadden was born June 2, 1933 in Elba, Texas to Kent and Leona Haynes McSpadden. He married Suzette McLean in Waurika, Oklahoma on September 25, 1963. After serving in the U.S. Air Force, John was a pilot and flew spray planes. He operated the Quanah Airport for many years and was a pilot instructor. John ranched and farmed wheat in Hardeman County, as well as farming sunflowers and wheat in South Dakota. He was a longtime member of the Church of Christ in Quanah.
Survivors include 2 sons, James Kent McSpadden and wife Pamela of Vernon, Texas and Nathan McSpadden of Chillicothe, Texas; 2 grandchildren, Zachary McSpadden and Emma McSpadden; and 1 sister, Nelwyn Beakley of Rule, Texas. John was preceded in death by his wife, Suzette McSpadden, on November 9, 2015; a brother, Kenneth McSpadden; and a sister, Darleen Duncan.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the QA&P Depot Museum, P.O. Box 445, Quanah, Texas 79252.
