Obituary

Johnie Mae Baldwin, 86 of Vernon, Texas passed away on Thursday, July 13, 2023, in Vernon, Texas.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 15, 2023, at 12:00 pm at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Toby Castleberry officiating.  Burial will follow at Eastview Cemetery under the direction of Sullivan Funeral Home.

Johnie Mae was born Saturday, March 13, 1937, during a thunderstorm on Jackass Hill in Coleman, Texas. She was the daughter of the late Cecil Eppler and the late Myrtle Reed Eppler. She married Jerry Phillips in 1954, and then she later married Andy Baldwin.  Andy passed away in 1998.  Johnie Mae worked in the cafeteria at Hawkins Elementary and then later drove the special education school bus. She operated a nursery and worked at Sunshine Place Preschool.  Johnie Mae was an avid Canasta player and snow skier. She also enjoyed going to Jubilees in Branson, Missouri.

Johnie Mae loved serving the Lord, and she was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. For over forty years she taught the third and fourth grade children Sunday School class. She sang in the choir and helped with church meals.  She was famous for her delicious salads. Johnie Mae loved mission work, traveling to Mexico several times.  She was also a youth sponsor for many ski trips to Colorado.

Johnie Mae is survived by four daughters, Tammy Laird & husband Tony of Vernon, Texas, Christina Cooper & husband Terry of Magnolia, Texas, Jessica Lacy & husband David of Seymour, Texas and Jennifer Baldwin of Vernon, Texas; two sisters, Dale Thomas of Vernon, Texas and Cecilene Krebs & husband Ken of Vernon, Texas. Johnie Mae also leaves behind nine grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren.

Johnie Mae is preceded in death her granddaughter, Kenzie Weir in 2021, and three sisters, Ernestine Smith, Clorinda Guinn and Carol Griffith.

Visitation will be Friday, July 14, 2023, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Sullivan Funeral Home.

Memorials can be made to Calvary Baptist Church or Sunshine Place Preschool.
