Obituary

Jon Taylor Eggleston of Charlotte, North Carolina, passed away on June 12, 2022, at the age of 76 due to sudden health complications. His loving daughters were by his side.

Jon was born in Levelland, Texas, on February 27, 1946, to father Gilford Bain Eggleston and mother Madelyn Marie Eggleston. The oldest of three children, Jon grew up with his family in Vernon, Texas.  After graduating from Vernon High School, he attended Texas Tech University and Cook County College before returning to Vernon to work in banking at Waggoner National Bank, and then Motorola Corporation in Fort Worth. He later returned to Vernon where he spent time with his family and enjoyed being active in the community including singing in his church choir at Central Christian, as well as the Texas Men's Choir in Wichita Falls. He loved community theater and he especially loved his years working with the children at the Boys and Girls Club in Vernon.

Jon's strong Christian faith was a constant in his everyday life. His Bible was always at his side and he loved to sing and hum his favorite hymns. He will be remembered by family and friends for his sense of humor and his love for silly puns. As a self-professed "punny guy" he was always ready with a quick joke in just about any situation.  He was an avid reader with a passion for history, and he loved to draw and write poetry.  He was an ardent sports fan with a lifelong devotion to the Dallas Cowboys. He enjoyed playing cards and considered himself a crossword connoisseur. Everyone who knew Jon always spoke of his friendly and funny personality, and his infectious ability to bring smiles and laughter to all those around him.

Jon was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his sister Evelyn Wilson and husband Jim, of Stamford, Texas; brother Eddie Eggleston and wife Toya, of Vernon, Texas; children Robert Eggleston, Alison Harding and husband Larry, and Amy Cervantes and husband John, all of Charlotte, North Carolina; as well as 7 grandchildren, 4 nephews and nieces, and 7 great nephews and nieces.

A visitation for Jon will be held at Sullivan Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 22, 2022, from 10 am to 11 am, with the funeral service to follow. Interment will be held immediately after the service at Eastview Memorial Cemetery.
