Obituary

Joseph "Joey" Matthew Whalen, 43 of Wichita Falls, Texas passed from this world into the loving, healing arms of his savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, July 26, 2025, in Wichita Falls, Texas.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at 1:00 pm at Sullivan Funeral Home Chapel under the direction of Sullivan Funeral Home with Pastor Cory Nabors officiating.

Joey was born Sunday, December 20, 1981, in Garland, Texas. He was the son of Mike Whalen and Cheryl Halencak Whalen. He graduated from Northside High School, Vernon, Texas in 2000. He worked as a derrickman in the oil field, which was his passion. He was currently employed as a welder for Chandler Manufacturing in Wichita Falls, Texas. He loved cooking out, loved Morgan Wallen, and he loved helping out. He was so quick witted – like his grandmother. Joey loved Jesus.

Joey is survived by his daughter, Mayce Austin-Whalen of Jacksboro, Texas, his parents, Mike & Cheryl Whalen of Wichita Falls, Texas, his brother, Chris Whalen of Wichita Falls, Texas, his grandparents, Fred & Charlene Halencak of Vernon, Texas, and his aunts and uncles, Kathy Gaynor of Southlake, Texas, Mark & Lana Halencak of Vernon, Texas, and Cindy & Nathan Cockerell of Lake Graham, Texas. Joey also leaves behind his nieces and nephews, Kason Whalen, Jessica Whalen, and Lyric Whalen all of Wichita Falls, Texas, his girlfriend, Tiffany Waggoner, and numerous cousins and friends.

Joey is preceded in death by his grandparents, Jim & Doris Smith Whalen, his uncle, Michael Halencak, his aunt, Debbie Whalen, and his cousin, Tyler Halencak.

Visitation will be Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at Sullivan Funeral Home from 12:00 pm until funeral services begin.
