Josephus Clinton Newton, Jr., 77 of Vernon, Texas passed away on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, in Vernon, Texas.

Funeral services will be held at a later date.

Joe was born Monday, October 27, 1947, in Honey Grove, Texas. He was the son of the late Josephus Clinton Newton, Sr. and the late Betty Harrington Newton. He was in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and served one tour in Vietnam. He worked for W.T. Waggoner Estate as a mechanic in the Oil Field Division, and he worked for the Texas Highway Department. He also owned and operated a Gulf Station.

Joe is survived by one son, Tim Newton of Vernon, Texas; two daughters, Jo Ann Newton of Vernon, Texas and Cassie Newton of Rolla, Missouri and one brother, Lloyd Wayne Newton of Costa Rica. Joe also leaves behind six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
