Karen Jane Clifton died Friday, December 30, 2023, at hospice of Wichita Falls. Born July 7, 1942, in Vernon, Texas. Janie, as her family was known to call her, was the eldest of Ruby Nell and Gene Littlefield's four children: Karen Jane, Larry Gene, Sue Carol, and Randy Joe. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her two daughters, Kimmie and Tracy; and her two brothers.

Janie is survived by her sister, a grandson, two great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and cousins, and by three very old "special" cousins, any one of whom would have welcomed her as a sister any day of the week.

Janie Graduated from Vernon High School in 1960 before attending Texas Woman's University and majoring in Home Economics. While in Denton, she met Jess Clifton whom she married June 3, 1963.

Janie was an incredibly creative and talented person: she taught herself to play piano and guitar, her flat pattern design was accepted by Neiman Marcus, and her room design model was featured in a Neiman's display window. Janie enjoyed oil painting, particularly owls; macramé, she could create anew or copy anything simply by looking at it, and was a sought after wall upholsterer.

She made a mean lasagna, loved anything chocolate, had a passion for crab wonton and sweet and sour soup, lived for those first vine-ripened tomatoes and local strawberries. Her beverage of choice was orange juice IF cherry coke were not available. She liked to fish in tanks and rivers and to float for hours in her backyard pool.

She retained an almost childlike quality to the end: she was truly delighted in the smallest of gifts and in any new baby, human or animal. She had a special way with creatures. She was generous with her time; as long as she could, she taught people how to use computers and macramé at the Fifty Plus Zone.

As long as circumstances allowed, she was a faithful worshipper at Lamar Baptist Church. Again, as long as possible, she read her bible daily, being especially fond of Revelations 21. She was a woman of simple faith: the Lord was hers and she was the Lord's.

Graveside services will be held Monday, January 8, 2024, at 2:00 pm at Wilbarger Memorial Park in Vernon, Texas, under the direction of Sullivan Funeral Home with Chaplain Lydia Pellikan officiating.
