Karen Denise
Skinner
Jun 25, 1956 — Mar 17, 2025
Karen Denise Skinner passed away quietly and peacefully on March 17th, 2025, surrounded by family.
She was born Karen Denise Turner on June 25, 1956, to Glen Dacel Turner and Loretta Neel Turner of Odell, TX. She grew up on the family farm north of Odell along Wanderer's Creek and attended school in Chillicothe, TX. While she had lived in other places throughout her lifetime, she ended up back on the farm that she had grown up loving. Karen married Robert Skinner on May 25, 1995, at Northside. They enjoyed fishing and camping both down at the creek and with family and friends wherever they could take their travel trailer. Karen spent years both working with and owning daycare businesses and working in the offices with home health services as well as some family businesses. The vast majority of her working years, however, were spent serving in several different capacities at Northside ISD. Over a 27-year period she interacted with students, parents, staff and community members and worked most recently as the Business Manager alongside the Superintendent. Her tenure there allowed her to foster relationships with people aged 5 to 99, many of which continue to this day.
She is survived by her husband Robert, her second mother, Sandy Turner of Odell, TX, a brother, Eddy Turner and wife Vicki of Aurora, CO, a son, Eddy Riggins and wife Jayme of Lubbock, TX, a daughter, Mikki Brown and wife Debbie of Corpus Christi, TX, eight grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren (with one more on the way), several nieces and nephews and many extended family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Glen and Loretta.
Services will be held on Saturday March 22, 2025, at 1:00 PM inside the chapel at Sullivan Funeral Home in Vernon, TX.
In lieu of flowers, the family has worked in conjunction with Northside ISD to create the Karen Skinner Memorial Scholarship fund. This scholarship will be made available to a student at Northside ISD every year so that her legacy will continue to be one of loving and serving those in her community.
Donations can be mailed to: The Karen Skinner Memorial Scholarship Fund, C/O - Northside ISD, 18040 Hwy 283, Vernon, TX 76384
