Kathy D. Burnett was born on February 11th 1965 in Chillicothe, Texas. She passed away on April 4, 2024, in Plano, Texas. Kathy was a lifelong resident of Vernon, Texas. She was a graduate of Vernon High School in 1983. Kathy also attended Howard Payne University and received a degree from HPU in 1989. Upon graduating college Kathy began working at Vernon State Hospital later to be named North Texas State Hospital. Kathy worked at the State Hospital for roughly 30 years. Kathy has been retired for some time and worked part time as a substitute teacher at Vernon High School. Kathy had many passions in life, her faith, family, friends were among them. However, she was also incredibly passionate about her furbabies and Vernon High School athletics!!

Kathy was preceded in death by her Mother Carol Burnett of Vernon in 2003, Sister Debbie Burnett-Brownlow of Holliday in 2006, and her Father Kenneth Burnett of Vernon in 2023.

Kathy is survived by her sister Kerry Burnett of Iowa Park, nephew Matthew Burnett of Vernon, nephew Erik Sabine and his wife Laura, and two great nephews Josiah Sabine, Isaiah Sabine also of Vernon, and many other cousins as well.

Kathy was greatly devoted to her community and her church family at First Baptist Church. She loved Vernon and the people of Vernon very much!!

Funeral services will be held Friday, April 12, 2024, at 3:00 pm at First Baptist Church with Rev. Brooks Kimmey officiating.

Memorials can be made to the Kathy Burnett Scholarship Fund at the Waggoner National Bank in Vernon, Texas.
