LaRue Irene Templeton, 80 of Vernon, Texas, passed away on Saturday, August 8, 2026, in Crowell, Texas.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 13, 2026, at 10:00 am at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Toby Castleberry officiating. Interment will follow at Wilbarger Memorial Park under the direction of Sullivan Funeral Home. 

LaRue was born Thursday, January 10, 1946, in Crowell, Texas. She was the daughter of the late Robert Printiss Gidney and the late Geneva Irene Athey Gidney. She married Lewis Templeton on July 2, 1967, in Crowell, Texas. She attended Cisco Junior College and graduated with a degree in Elementary Education from Midwestern State University. She taught school for three years at River Road in Amarillo, Texas, and then for fifteen years at Central Elementary in Vernon, Texas. She was a member of a local sorority and Calvary Baptist Church. 

LaRue is survived by her husband, Lewis Templeton, her sons, Craig Templeton & wife Kenya and David Templeton & wife Traci, her brother, Charlie Gidney, her sister-in-law, Billye Gidney, six grandchildren, Matt Templeton & wife Areli, Madison Templeton, Brooke Templeton, Kyla Templeton, Adrian Templeton, and Hagen Templeton and two great grandchildren, Derek Lewis Templeton and Levi Templeton. LaRue also leaves behind six nieces and nephews, Stan Sweeney, Kim & Justin Shepherd, Steve & Liliana Graves, Brenda & Blake Hammond, Beth & Glenn Tarter and Jody & David Woods along with numerous great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews. 

LaRue is preceded in death by her parents, R.P. & Geneva Gidney and her brother, Printiss Gidney.

Memorials may be made to Crowell ISD.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, from 7:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Sullivan Funeral Home.
