Lillie Geneva Fry Barker, of Bowie, Texas, went to be with Jesus on the morning of October 2, 2026. She was 90. Heaven got the better end of that arrangement, and Bowie is already arguing about it.
Lillie was born June 11, 1936, in Telephone, Texas, the youngest of eleven children born to Jerry Lamar Fry and Adelia Barbara Ann Frazier. Being the baby of that bunch did not make her quiet. It made her hard to outlast. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers William, Odist, Oscar, Gene, and J. L.; her sisters Emmer, Lili Dee, Leona, Essie, and Roberta; and the love of her life, her husband Bobby Barker. She was also preceded in death by her granddaughter Kristina, her great-grandson Austin, and her great-great-granddaughter Enid.
She is survived by her daughter Sharon Walker; her son Rick Woodard (Carla); her daughter Carla Courtney (Loren); her stepson David Miller (Robin); and her honorary daughter and son, Shirley and Jerry Bellah, who were family in every way that counts.
She leaves a grand legacy of grandchildren: Douglas Walker (Stephanie), Derrah Horn (Jay), Bergundi Cain (Briscoe), Amber Woodard, Candece Cmakal (Eric), Megan Phillips (Jonathan), Shalena Russell (Scott), Staisha Maddox (Wes), Cayla Hardin (Kiefer), Brittany Barnes (Edward), Bethany Bellah, and Hunter Hutto.
Her great-grandchildren include Luke, Anthony, Dakota, Zoie, Israel, Zachary, Briscoe IV, Walker, Crockett, Maverick, Hockley, Evan, Kaitlyn, Krista, Samantha, Carley, Gage, Abigail, Emma, Bella, Zander, Randy, Randall, Kenzey, Wesley, Richard, Padme, Dora, Theodore, and Brittany’s children, Kynley, Raynjer, and Kayden.
She is also survived by her great-great-grandchildren Adeline, Luke, Harmony, Layden, Carter, Ledger, and Kylo; by more nieces, nephews, and extended family than a person could count without a pencil; and by countless friends who quit being company and became kin.
Lillie spent most of her adult life in the optical business, which suited her. She liked people to see straight. She started out making glasses, then moved into management. Texas State Optical recruited her to run the optical side and keep the doctors and the lab from talking past each other. The owner noticed she could untangle a mess without raising her voice, or at least not for long, and put her over all of his TSO stores across the Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex.
It was in those years that she reconnected with Bobby. They were married after just a few months. Bobby did not put up much of a fight. He worked in Electra and she worked in the Metroplex, so they did what practical people do and split the difference. Bowie got them in 1982.
She joined the United Pentecostal Church in the early 1990s and stayed in the middle of it for the rest of her life. If Bowie was going to keep a UPC church open, somebody had to be more stubborn than the circumstances. Lillie volunteered. She had a gift for it. Folks in that part of the country kept hearing the word of God in no small part because she had decided they would.
A visitation will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., followed immediately by the funeral service at 1:00 p.m., on October 6, 2026, at Sullivan Funeral Home in Vernon, Texas. Interment will follow at Eastview Memorial Cemetery in Vernon.
