Lucy Evelyn Lemon Tidmore went to see her heavenly Father on April 15, 2024 after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born to A.T. and Esta Lemon in Bugscuffle (Elliott), TX on Dec. 5, 1927. She graduated at Oklaunion High School as Valedictorian. She attended North Texas Teacher's College, now NTU, in Denton Tx where she earned her BA in Library Science and Business in 1949.
Her first job after college was Librarian at Shephard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls and then first grade teacher at University Methodist Church in Wichita Falls. She and Gordon moved to Vernon in 1964 and owned Tidmore Chevrolet & Oldsmobile dealership and later Tidmore Car Connections. Lucy had a real love for helping in activities for all three daughters while growing up, sewing and yardwork. She served as Camp Fire leader for 23 years for all 3 daughters. Lucy was a longtime member, since 1945, of the First Baptist Church of Vernon. She served in the nursery, preschool dept., and outreach for her Sunday school class. She also enjoyed singing in the church choir and playing in the handbell choir. During the last 12 years, Lucy enjoyed helping her daughter, Mikki, create fiddle quilts for people with dementia and Alzheimers.
She married the love of her life, Gordon Tidmore on April 18, 1948. They were married 64 years. They lived in Denton, Wichita Falls and Vernon for most of their marriage. They had three daughters: JaLeta Tidmore, Sheri Morriss and Mikki (Terry) Gwinn. She was Grandmom to Brandon Jennings (Amie), Jennifer Reynolds, JoAnna Howell (Mike), Tiffany Syphard (Brian), Ashley Keene (Phillip), Teri McCune and Shana (Phillip) Salazar. She was Great Grandmom to Barrett and Harper Howell, Mason and Jaidon Reynolds, Addison Syphard, Alana Jennings, Teigan McCune, Annabelle and Paislee Salazar.
Lucy was preceded in death by her husband Gordon 'Bardo' (2012); her precious sister, Eloise 'Lise'; her beloved brother, J.W 'Brother'; her hard-working parents A.T. and Esta as well as great granddaughter Ava Syphard.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the First Baptist Church at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 18, 2024.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 17, 2024, from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Sullivan Funeral Home.
Donations can be made to First Baptist Church of Vernon, Texas or Hospice of Wichita Falls, Texas.
