Maria Guadalupe Mendez, 71 of Stamford, Texas died on Tuesday, November 8, 2022 in Abilene, Texas.

Mass services will be held Saturday, November 12, 2022 at 10:00 am at Holy Family Catholic Church with Father Phil Petta officiating.

Maria was born Saturday, August 25, 1951 in Vernon, Texas. She was the daughter of the late Guadalupe De La Rosa and the late Isabel Tobar De La Rosa. Maria married Joe Mendez in Austin, Texas on July 12, 1974. She attended the University of Texas, and was the shipping coordinator at Rhodia for 34 years. Maria was very active member of the Holy Family Catholic Church. She volunteered at TYC, was involved with The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC), and was an advocate of migrant workers in the 60's.  Maria loved her family, and she enjoyed watching her grandchildren play sports.

Maria is survived by her husband Joe Mendez of the home, her daughter, Sonja Viertel and husband Adam of Albany, Texas. Her brother Fidencio De La Rosa and wife Sylvia. Her grandchildren Jaime West, Gus West, Ligon West, Ben West, Lanxton Viertel, and Jeremy Saxton. Her great grandchildren Sutton, Owen, Gunner, and Paisley.

Maria is preceded in death by her parents Guadalupe and Isabel De La Rosa, and brother, Ben De La Rosa.

Rosary will be Thursday, November 10, 2022 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Sullivan Funeral Home Chapel.
