Marie Chumley, 80, of Vernon, Texas passed away on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, in Vernon, Texas.

Funeral services will be held Friday, September 12, 2025, at 10:00 am at Sullivan Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Richard Keeling officiating.

Marie was born Friday, February 23, 1945, in Lindel, Texas. She was the daughter of the late Roy Debbs Chumley and the late Lois Eugene Thorn Chumley. Marie worked for the North Texas State Hospital for thirty-four years as a nurse before retiring in 2015. She loved her work and gained a huge sense of purpose from helping in her profession. Isaiah 41:13 was a verse she used when she needed comfort: Fear not for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.  In her later years, she was a big fan of Charles Stanley and spent a lot of time worshipping along with his television ministry. Maria loved her close friends dearly. Her daughter and grandchildren were the light of her life and the solace she needed.

Marie is survived by her daughter, Misti Knowles of Seymour, Texas and two grandchildren, Jake Knowles of Monday, Texas and Ryan Knowles of Lubbock, Texas. Marie also leaves behind numerous cherished nieces and nephews.

Marie is preceded in death by her parents, Roy & Lois Chumley and her sisters, Betty Ruth Chumley Byrd, Dorothy Faye Chumley Hall, and Doris Darlene Chumley Gaebler.

Visitation will be Thursday, September 11, 2025, from 6:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Sullivan Funeral Home.
