Marie Hlavaty Hofmann of  Vernon, Texas passed away after a brief illness on November 17, 2021 in Vernon. Marie was born in Crowell Texas August 24, 1934 to WF (Bill) Hlavaty and Minnie Burtis Hlavaty of Thalia, Texas.

Marie was a graduate of Vernon High School, and Texas Tech University.  She obtained her  Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education and was  a Charter Member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Texas Tech  Sorority.  She was a volunteer at the USSV, and Wilbarger County Museum and a member of the Calvary Baptist Church.

She married Newell Wesley Hofmann on October 8, 1954 in Lubbock Texas.  Marie began her teaching career in Lubbock and later moved to Crowell where she taught 2nd grade until moving  to Vernon.  After being a stay-at-home Mom, she resumed her teaching career and retired after 28 years serving in the Vernon School system.

Marie  is survived by her son Dean Hofmann, of Vernon, daughter, Kathy Thorp and son-in-law Jahew Thorp of Throckmorton, Texas. Two Grandson's  Wyatt  Jahew Thorp of Throckmorton, Wesley  Jameson Thorp, wife Susanna Jacobi Thorp, of Stepehnville and two great grandson's Matthew Jameson Thorp, and Charles Jack Thorp.  Her sister Dorothy Klepper, of Hewitt, Texas, Nephew, John Klepper, and wife, Cathay Klepper of McGregor, and  Dan Klepper, of Lubbock.

The family would like to express their appreciation to Wilbarger General Hospital, Dr. Travis Lehman, and staff for providing excellent care to our Mom/MeMaw. A special thanks to Beyond Faith Hospice for providing excellent support services  to our  family members and for guiding our family through this time.

Visitation will be held on November 22, 2021at 10:00 am at  Sullivan Funeral Home. Graveside services will follow  at 11:00 am at Wilbarger Memorial Park 11856 County Rd. 128 W Vernon, Tx.  Services will be conducted by Rick Rosales and Ron Fox.
