Martha Bayne Propes , 84 of Vernon, Texas passed away on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, in Vernon, Texas.
Funeral services will be held Friday, July 12, 2024, at 2:00 pm at Sullivan Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Joe Dale Wilson officiating. Burial will follow at Wilbarger Memorial Park under the direction of Sullivan Funeral Home.
Martha was born at home on March 18, 1940 in Oklaunion, TX, the youngest of eleven children of Irene Brock Mann Tompkins and George Edmond Tompkins. She married Richard Donald "Don" Propes on September 7th, 1957.
Martha attended school in Oklaunion and Vernon, and later attended Vernon College obtaining a certificate in Secretarial Science. She co-managed the Pizza Point Restaurant and later worked for Vernon College, the Vernon Independent School District, ASCS office, and The Bank of Vernon. She was a member of The Vernon Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and the Vernon Baptist Church. Her greatest joy was singing in the choir and specials at church. Her love for her Lord and Savior was inspirational to everyone who knew her.
Martha was proceeded in death by her parents, Brothers Clearon Tompkins, Bevie George "Jeep" Tompkins and Ray Tompkins, Sisters Burgess Counts, Dorothy Deaton Harmon, Maburne Loveless, Loyce Abercrombie, Billie Thompson, and Mary Tompkins.
She is survived by her husband, a sister, Anna Ruth Evans of Plainview, TX, Daughters Jana Coats and husband Lynn of Childress, Shelley Stringer and husband Jay of Vernon, and Jill Suzzanne Propes of Abilene. Grandchildren include Chad King, Jacob Stringer, Jayton Stringer, Tara Rodriguez, Mackenzie Rickard, Shaleigh Hinkle and Adrianna Rodriquez. She is also survived by nine great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Thursday, July 11, 2024, from 6:00 pm to 8:00pm at Sullivan Funeral Home.
The family asks that memorials be made to The Vernon Baptist Church or Hospice.
