Merry Leatha May Wofford passed after a brief illness on July 21, 2026. Her journey in life began on December 21, 1955, where she was born in Chillicothe, Texas to Hubert Nolan and Clara Baker. She had a joyous heart and a passion for life. She also had a beautiful singing voice that was sent down from the heavens; in fact, she was approached to be a professional singer but instead opted to settle down and marry her one true love, Gary Wofford, and become a mother.

She and Gary married on June 26, 1976, who preceded her in death in 2007. They lived in Vernon, and raised two sons, Joshua Ray and David Lynn together, which was filled with amazing adventures and fun times throughout the years. Family was everything to Leatha, and she was also a loving and proud grandmother (affectionately referred to as Meme) to Clara Wofford, Jacob Wofford, Gavin Wofford, and Katie Hoover. She also was blessed to be a great-grandmother to Jasmine Hopkins, Cheyenne Comardo, Nathan Hysmith, Madison Hysmith, and Paisley Hysmith.

After the passing of her husband, Leatha remained in Vernon, Texas where she enjoyed multiple hobbies and activities such as painting, drawing, and collecting antiques. The weekends were filled with visiting her sons and playing card games, board games, and family cookouts.

She was a stern believer in the Lord. You could find her praying daily for guidance and strength and praying for her family and their well-being. Heaven has gained a new angel in Heaven. We know she is watching down on us with her smiling eyes and a smile on her face. Rest in Peace, Mom. You have earned your wings!

In lieu of a formal service, the family will be gathering and having a celebration of her life on August 22, 2026 starting at 12PM at the Wilbarger General Auditorium. Please come and join us as we celebrate her wonderful life and share good memories and make new ones of our own.
