Obituary

Patsy Lou Quisenberry McCarty, 77 of Vernon, Texas passed away on Friday, July 4, 2025, in Electra, Texas.

Funeral service will be held on Wednesday July 9, 2025, at 10:00am at the Western Trail Cowboy Church with Rev. Luke Morrison officiating. Burial will follow at Wilbarger Memorial Park, under the direction of Sullivan Funeral Home.

Patsy was born Thursday, October 23, 1947, to Lloyd (Buddy) and Ruby Grimes Quisenberry. Patsy was born in Vernon, Texas. Patsy attended school in Oklaunion and graduated from Northside High School in 1966. Patsy married the love of her life, MacFarland Gamble McCarty, on January 6, 1967. In November 1967, Patsy gave birth to daughter Sharon. Patsy and Sharon followed Gamble to California for a short time while Gamble was in the Navy. After a minor earthquake, Patsy and Sharon returned to Texas until Gamble was out of the Navy in 1969. By 1970, Patsy and Gamble would become parents to Kristie. Kristie, they would later find out, was born with severe birth defects that would change their lives. Kristie required more and more care and Patsy and Gamble made the very difficult decision to allow Kristie to live at the Lubbock State School.

Patsy was a worker! Even with a young family, she worked as a telephone operator at the Southwestern Bell building on Paradise Street. Many lifetime friends were made during her time at the phone company. Times were changing and the phone company in Vernon no longer needed the telephone operators. After some time, Patsy obtained a job in the Food Service Department at the Vernon State Hospital. Another position would become available in the Housekeeping Department and that is where Patsy would shine as a supervisor. She worked in Housekeeping for almost thirty years! Because Patsy had begun working for the State in her younger years, she and Gamble were able to retire in their 50's and this enabled them to pursue their dreams of camping all over the United States in their "condo on wheels"!!

Before retirement, Patsy gained a new and her favorite title- "Nana"!! Patsy rose to the challenge of raising two daughters and now she had a grandson Brantley! Brantley joined Gamble and Patsy on every camping trip that didn't interfere with school.

Patsy was loved by many! She would open her home to everyone! She made so many holidays and birthdays so very special. Patsy, Mom, NaNa and friend will be missed.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 6-7pm at Sullivan Funeral Home.

Memorials can be made to the Holiday Spirit Meal or to the Western Trail Cowboy Church Children's Church.
