Obituary

Peggy Gayle Hitchcock left this earth to be with her Heavenly Father on May 16, 2024.  She was born to proud parents, Walter Day Hitchcock and Madeline Francile Moore Hitchcock in Vernon, Texas on January 6, 1945.  She was one of ten children in the family.

Services will be held at a later date.

Moving from Vernon, Texas when she was a child, the family made their home in Greenville, Texas. Peggy attended the Johnson Street Church of Christ while in Greenville.  After having gone to school in Greenville until the ninth grade she moved back to Vernon, Texas living with her   aunt and uncle, Quinn & Aline Moore, and later returned to the Greenville area to attend school at Boles Children's Home where she graduated and worked until she went to Abilene Christian College in Abilene, Texas to pursue an accounting degree.

In 1978 Peggy was employed by the E-Systems, Greenville Division as a contractor for the Sinai Field Mission in Egypt where she worked for approximately three years. She also worked at the U.S. Embassy in Bulgaria and traveled to several foreign countries while working overseas, including Israel, Greece, and Costa Rica.  When Peggy was living in Richardson, Texas, she was employed at a dental facility in Garland, Texas as a dental assistant for Dr. Richard Blume and Dr. Owen Dillard.  Later in life, she also worked for the Upper Room Christian Bookstore while living in the Nashville, Tennessee area.

Throughout her life, Peggy always gave God the praise for her abundant blessings. She loved Jesus and His church, and actively engaged with numerous Churches of Christ over the years wherever she lived.  She was known to be an independent, resilient, loving, and giving person, often sharing kind words of encouragement and gratitude. Peggy touched many lives for good during her 79 years, and she was loved by many.  She had a strong work ethic and gave of herself to others, sometimes doing without to help those in need while living in Tennessee, Colorado, Texas, Arkansas, and Oklahoma.  After being a caregiver to several elderly memory-challenged patients in several states during the latter years of her life, she eventually made her way back to Vernon, Texas, and reconnected with the Wilbarger Street Church of Christ.

She is survived by her sister, Mary (John Teel) of Tyler, Texas, Pam (Jim Sumrow) of Celeste, Texas, Karla (Tim Brown, deceased) of Sachse, Texas, Shelly (Tom Ping) of Garland, Texas, Phillip and Andrea Hitchcock of Greenville, Texas, Gerry Hitchcock of Greenville, Texas, Jennifer (Mike Baggarly) of Garland, Texas, and several nephews and nieces.  Preceding her in death are her parents, sister, Lesa Jan Hitchcock, brother, Benny Hitchcock, brother, Michael Hitchcock, brother-in-law, Tim Brown and two nieces and a nephew.
