Obituary

Polly A Stevenson, 92 of Vernon, Texas passed away on Palm Sunday, March 29, 2026, in Vernon, Texas.

Funeral services will be held, Thursday, April 9, 2026, at 1:00 pm at New Hope Baptist Church with Rev. Quinton Porter officiating. Burial will follow at Wilbarger Memorial Park under the direction of Sullivan Funeral Home.

Polly was born Thursday, September 28, 1933, in Timpson, Texas. She was the daughter of the late Luther Barron and the late Emma L. Goodwin. She retired from the Vernon State Hospital and then later worked for Home Health Care. Polly grew up in New York, New York. After forty years of living there, she moved to Texas. She has been a member of New Hope Baptist Church since then. She was the oldest on the New Hope Baptist Mothers Board, and she loved to help others and her church. Polly's favorite hobby was driving, and she was a taxi driver when she lived in New York.  She loved to travel and would drive from state to state as a pastime. She also enjoyed going out to eat with her friends, Cheryl, Beverly, Cookie, and Rose, also known as "The Four Musketeers". She cherished walks in the park and trips to Wichita Falls to her doctors' appointments. Her favorite color was any shade of purple. When she was unable to speak, she would give a "two thumbs up".

Polly is survived by her daughter, Patricia Stevenson, one brother Tony Grace, her daughters-in-law, Lorena Richardson and Cheryl Stevenson Sample, ten grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, and thirty great-great grandchildren. Polly also leaves behind her special cousin, Ruby Goodwyn, and a host of nieces, nephew, cousins, good friends, and loving church family.

Polly is preceded in death by her parents, Luther Barron and Emma Goodwin, her sons, Stanley Stevenson and Marvin Richardson, and her brother, Bobby Grace.

Visitation will be Wednesday, April 8, 2026, from 6:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Sullivan Funeral Home.
