Obituary

Dr. Reynaldo Tolentino, 85 of Vernon, Texas passed away on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, in Vernon, Texas.

Mass services will be held Saturday, March 1, 2025, at 10:00 am at Holy Family of Nazareth Catholic Church with Father Phil Petta officiating. Burial will follow at Wilbarger Memorial Park under the direction of Sullivan Funeral Home.

Dr. Tolentino was born Tuesday, March 28, 1939, in Bongabong, Nueva Ecija, Philippines. He was one of five children born to the late Alvaro Tolentino and the late Maria Tariga Tolentino. He married Cindy Pechacek in May of 1980 at Holy Family of Nazareth Catholic Church in Vernon, Texas. He graduated with honors from high school in Bongabong, Nueva Ecija and then graduated with honors from the University of Santo Tomas in Manila, Philippines. He came to the United States in 1963 as an intern at St. Mary's Hospital in Tucson, Arizona. He was the Chief Surgical Resident at Tucson Medical Center. After completing a residency in Vascular and Thoracic Surgery at St. Paul Hospital in Dallas, Texas he moved to Wichita Falls, Texas. He was certified by the American Board of Surgery on March 16, 1970. After three years of practicing in Wichita Falls in 1975, he moved to Vernon, Texas and practiced General Surgery for forty-nine years.

Dr. Tolentino loved spending time in prayer. He was an avid golfer and poker player, and he enjoyed playing Words with Friends on the computer. He was a member of Holy Family of Nazareth Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, West Vernon Social Club, and Vernon Lions Club. He was also a member of the Texas Medical Association, and the American Medical Association. He retired as Chief of Surgery at Wilbarger General Hospital and then served as a member on the Board of Directors for Wilbarger General Hospital. On January 16, 2025, he received Vernon's Citizen of the Year.

Dr. Tolentino is survived by his wife, Cindy Tolentino of the home; two sons, Kevin Tolentino of Houston, Texas and Glen Tolentino & wife Kelli of Edmond, Oklahoma; one daughter, Renee Blakeney & husband Kyle of San Antonio, Texas, and four grandchildren, Sydney, Ethan, Kade and Austin. He also leaves behind two sisters, Linda Boyea of Tucson, Arizona and Daisy Canivel of Wichita Falls, Texas and numerous nieces and nephews.

Dr. Tolentino is preceded in death by his mother, Maria Tolentino on March 3, 2022; his brother, Teodoro "Ted" Tolentino on April 15, 2024, and his sister, Nieva "Nona" Rubiano on March 13, 2023.

Rosary will be Friday, February 28, 2025, at 6:00 pm followed by a public visitation at 6:30 pm at Sullivan Funeral Home Chapel.

Memorial can be given to Holy Family of Nazareth Catholic Church or Vernon Boys & Girls Club .
